PWHP – Packaged Window Heat Pump
Midea’s Packaged Window Heat Pump is a window-mounted cold climate air source heat pump, designed for DIY installation and high-performing, energy-efficient heating and cooling. Developed to support multi-family buildings’ transition towards electrification, the Midea PWHP provides a cost-effective solution for buildings looking to quickly meet future sustainability requirements.
Similar to a Window AC or PTAC, this self-contained unit uses a vapor injection inverter rotary compressor with R32 refrigerant, providing up to 100% heating at 5◦F and heat pump functionality down to -13◦F. Midea’s PWHP stands out in innovation and uniqueness as a window-mounted unit. Unit performance is 9,000 BTU/hr heating and cooling, with the category’s highest CEER of 16.0 as of the application date, a 2.35 COP @ 17◦F, up to a SEER2 of 21.8 and up to an HSPF2 of 11.6. This is done without the use of auxiliary heat. The innovative saddle design allows window view and functionality while simultaneously reducing indoor noise levels. A distinguishing feature of the Midea PWHP is a telescoping center section that adjusts to various wall depths and a hinged outdoor section allowing for rotation during installation.
Moreover, the Midea PWHP includes an internal condensate management system, no plumbing is required, efficiently managing defrost melt water via humidity control indoors or an atomized spray outside depending on the mode and conditions. Lastly, the Midea PWHP utilizes Matter enabled WiFi for home connectivity with Midea’s SmartHome app or wireless BACnet mesh providing integration with new or existing Building Management Systems minimizing wiring needs.
