Reservoir N51
Reservoir N51 is an intelligent, predictive heat pump water heater that Reservoir designs, manufactures, and installs in-house. It brings one of the home’s largest energy loads into the connected home, turning a passive appliance into an efficient, flexible, and protective energy system.
Efficiency is the foundation. Reservoir’s Thermal Intelligence dynamically manages multiple heating elements, led by an ultra-efficient heat
pump, to deliver up to six times the efficiency of a standard water heater. A built-in recirculation pump delivers hot water instantly throughout the home while avoiding the cost and complexity of installing a separate circulator loop, and because it only runs when prompted, it adds convenience without adding standby losses.
Demand flexibility is built in. Reservoir acts like a thermal battery, storing energy as hot water. It plans heating around time-of-use rates and syncs with on-site solar, shifting load to cleaner, lower-cost periods and easing peak demand, all without the household noticing (except on their energy bills!). Reservoir is also pursuing OpenADR.
Most “smart” appliances stop at Wi-Fi. Reservoir goes further: it learns, monitors, and intervenes, detecting leaks and preventing frozen pipes, Reservoir N51 tank corrosion, and bacterial growth. Wi-Fi and over-the-air updates let it keep improving after installation, and it integrates with platforms like Home Assistant and Siri so hot water is easy to manage, but its smart capabilities can do much more than monitor usage.
Everyday comfort improves too. No-Wait Shower delivers hot water in about three to five seconds and saves thousands of gallons a year, while 150 gallons of virtual capacity from a compact tank means the home rarely runs short. Designed for real homes, Reservoir installs in three to five hours in the same footprint as a standard tank, at 240V or 120V where panel capacity is limited.
